This is my brothers story: My name is William Sharp. I am married and have three beautiful children. Right out of high school I joined the U.S. Army and spent several years on active duty, which included a 12-month tour with the 82nd Airborne Division to Al Anbar Province, Ramadi Iraq. I later reenlisted in a reserve unit in which I currently serve. I started school at Metropolitan Community College in Omaha, Nebraska and have transferred to the University of Nebraska at Omaha. My original academic plan was to obtain a degree in biology, but after careful deliberation I knew that I would be doing myself a great disservice if I did not take an opportunity to acquire an education in what I truly wanted to do which is petroleum engineering. Due to the nature of the school, there is only a small number of Universities within the country that currently offer the program and all of which are located outside of my state and relocation is a necessity. After carefully considering several institutions nationwide, I have chosen to pursue my education at the University of Alaska Fairbanks because of their extremely reasonable acceptance rate, student to teacher ratio, and tuition that is reasonable to prevent me from acquiring a mass amount of student loan debt. The one negative is that a move to Alaska is almost unobtainable with out a significant upfront investment for the move. I do receive the GI Bill and VA disability through the military that will support my family and me while I achieve my degree, but I simply cannot afford the moving expense alone. The money raised will go towards moving expenses of my family's personal belongings, transportation of our vehicles and the flights required to move all of us. I would need to achieve my goal by May, 2016 to allow for additional time to move and be ready for the start of the school year in August. If I was able to reach my goal, then it would lead me to being able to achieve a degree that I have sought after for so long now and help me provide for my family and the life that they deserve. I would be truly grateful for every penny that I receive and the support of the people, from the country that I have been so proud to serve. Thank you.
