I am seeking funds for the setup fees required to start a non-profit organization in Georgia to help the home challenged. On any given day, there are about 10,000 people home challenged in Atlanta, GA. Some are due to addiction and some due to loss of job/home.
Obviously I can’t help all but I would like to start an organization that would try to help others get back on their feet. I propose programs in counseling, job training via classes as well as hands-on training, and housing until the home challenged are able to get back on their feet. This is only for those want to be helped.
I experienced this first hand. In April 2014, I lost my job. By July 2014, I was evicted from my apartment because I did not qualify for government nor community assistance. Both required monies available before they would assist.
I had no prospects of a job or assistance. The only assistance I qualified for was foodstamps.
Luckily, I had my car, one that was nearly 30 years old, and a few safe places.
While dealing with my problem, I found that area shelters were not equipped to really help me either. Shelters maximum stay is for 2 weeks and you only get to stay at night. You had to leave the premises by 6:30 am and you could not return until around 5 pm. This is not a lot of turnaround time to find a job much less get back on your feet.QpW
