In 1986 Pastors Cesar and Rita Minera founded Ministerio Palabra de Vida (Word of Life Ministries) and have been senior pastors since then. We are a family oriented, multicultural church that throughout the years has made it a focal point of the ministry to create tighter knit families. We believe that after God, family is the most important face of life and for this reason; on an annual basis we conduct marriage, finance and youth seminars. Our ministry also dedicates itself to guiding children in the Lord's path as soon as they can walk and talk. One of the main reasons we made such an emphasis on family is because we believe that stronger families develop stronger citizens, which in turn will mean less social problems such as teen pregnancy, gangs, divorce and poverty. We are also a church that has focused on building strong bonds in our community. Our mission statement is we are a church committed to God and with answers for the world. We do not see the four walls of our church as our workspace, but we see the four cardinal points of the city as our canvas to create a city with more love, more personal responsibility and less violence and crime. An example of this is the close relationship we have established with law enforcement. To date, we have had the opportunity of hosting citywide festivals with former Chief of Police, Steven Pitts as wells as Sparks Police Department, the Reno SHeriff's Office and the Reno Police Department. One of the festivals focused on bringing out the police officers, S.W.A.T. Team, gang unit and even the K-9 unit to interact with the Hispanic community in order to breakdown the barriers that have put each group in conflict with each other. We believe that by working together with law enforcement we can see a more peaceful Reno and we have begun to see the fruits of our labor. Following the tragic Ferguson events, the ministry played a significant role in organizing a symposium on cultural competence and policing. The purpose of the symposium was to have law enforcement hear the concert of citizens as well as answer the many questions that emerge after such events. These are just a few of the many events we have been a part of throughout the years.
