My name is Erin and the man in the photo is my wonderful finance Ramon. I'm a 3rd grade teacher and he works in construction.
We've been together over 10 years and engaged for 7. When we got engaged we were young, 21 and 23, and we were naive to the costs of a wedding, especially in southern California.
Like many people, we've had a rough go of it during the recession. We were both laid off from our jobs and have struggled getting back on our feet. We saved for our wedding while putting me through college. Ramon and I come from low income families who are unable to help with our wedding. There were times when we had an amount saved and we were able to book a location, only to have some sort of financial catastrophe happen that would require us to back out of our site, loosing some of our deposits in the process.
A few of our friends have told us to go elope but we both dream of having a simple, outdoor wedding, surrounded by our families and friends. Ramon is filipino and has a large, amazing extended family. It's important in his culture for the family to be there to bless our marriage and celebrate the event.
During our never-ending engagement we have lost family members dear to us. Both Ramon and I lost our grandfathers and my grandmother recently had a major stroke and is bed ridden. Ramon's granny is 89 and is struggling with severe memory loss. We feel that if we don't get married by next year, his granny may not be there to celebrate with us. She is the last grandparent we now have who can be at our wedding.
This is why I am asking for your help. We are not fancy people. We don't want extravagance. All we want is a simple wedding to share with Ramon's granny and the rest of our family. If you can, we would be forever grateful to you for helping us achieve this long awaited dream. Your generosity will never be forgotten.
