Hello everyone
Thanks for checking my fundraiser. On behalf of others like me who are struggling to overcome their education financial difficulties to achieve their dream, I would like to thank everyone in advance for your support.
My name is Shaban Varajab from Kenya. I am excited to share with you about God’s work in my life and invite you to join me. In my journey to make an impact in my home country and the world I am excited to have been accepted to pursue my studies at Indiana University South Bend pursuing a master degree in Public Affairs. Three years from now, I will have acquired the very highest skills and knowledge that will see myself making an impact in the policy making process with local and international governments and think tanks to impact positively on the lives of underserved communities in my country and across the globe.

Why I need your help:
Dedicating my life to bring a brighter future for others is very close to my heart but financial resources are becoming a challenge as I seek to pursue further studies here in the US. When I began the program, I thought I would find a job the soonest and pay for it. My sister and brother would have helped me finance the program, unfortunately, the recent political clashes as a result of the disputed presidential elections conducted on August 8th, 2017 in my home country affected them adversely. They cannot support me hence placing a huge burden on myself. Despite these challenges, I have continued to work hard and maintain good grades. With my F1 Visa that allows me to work for 20hrs per week, I am confident in my ability to find a job, it just may take a little longer than my current finances can handle. This still may not be enough to raise money for books, tuition, research, food, housing, clothing, transport, health insurance and other related costs. I need to make sure I am in good financial shape for the Fall and Spring Semester, so I can sail through this program. At this moment I have no option but to rely on the generosity of well-wishers and kindhearted stranger like you to raise $8,000 out of the required $25,000 to support my studies.
Your contribution will take care of the following costs:
• $6,000 for tuition fee.
• $500 for local transport.
• $500 for books, printing and other education supplies (2 Semesters).
• $1000 for meals (2 Semesters).

Having grown up as an orphan in a developing country, I am no stranger to hardship. Yet it is the same history that has taught me to believe in miracles. The journey has not been an easy one, but the fact that I have made it this far gives me hope that God will provide his kind-hearted people like you so that I finish this program and achieve my goals. I humbly appeal for your help if you can. It is because of your generosity that the financial burden placed on me to pursue my education will be reduced. I will be able to spend more time focusing on my studies, research and community service and decrease the worry about my finances. I promise that I will be committed to work hard (even if it means adopting long hours and very limited leisure time) to learn as much as I can, widen my networks of lifelong multicultural friends and collaborate with my peers and professors to foster conversations and ideas on social change based on principle of universal love of God, humanity, dignity and equity.

To appreciate your contribution, I will not only send my progress reports but also acknowledge you in the following ways:
• $50: I will send a written letter.
• $100: I will send a thank you card and schedule a Skype call/share a short video.
• $500 and above: I will send a thank you card, schedule a Skype call/share a short video and print your name on the map of Kenya printed on a piece of fabric.

Why I chose this program:
I chose this program because I have always been interested in understanding the way development works and the impact of political environment on people’s relationships and economic progress. Growing up as an orphan in a developing country undergoing massive change and struggling to rebuild its identity (from tribal divisions), corrupt system, weak government institutions and economy, it is hard for many low-income families to access education, health services, housing and food and other basic needs. This experience has pushed me to constantly seek answers as to why Kenya and other developing countries can(not) have systems for generating, testing and implementing smart solutions to tough social, economic and political problems that we face today. I want to be part of global change makers that are working to fix social injustices by exploring different innovative approaches to empower local disadvantaged communities (especially at-risk youth) so that they can make political leaders and policy makers accountable. Studying here in the US (especially at IUSB) will provide me with a special lens to comprehend the steps, success factors, challenges and best practices of working through the production of smart, informed and big picture solutions to significant (yet complex) policy problems governments face. The program will expose me to the design of government systems and how they can be improved to effectively create social and economic progress for those at the bottom of the pyramid. I will gain depth in leadership and development theory and how to apply data analytics to create evidence based policies that will engage local communities and improve performance in government institutions.
