FTC Disclosure Requirements.

When to use them and Why.

You MUST include a disclosure statement within any and all pages, blog posts, or social media posts where affiliate links are posted. This disclosure statement should be clear and concise, stating that we are compensating you for your review or endorsement.

  • Disclosures should be placed ABOVE the fold (if included in a blog post)
  • Pop-Up disclosures are prohibited.
  • Proximate to the information so the consumer does not have to hunt for it
  • in the same format as the message
  • understandable by the consumer
  • Do NOT just LINK to a disclosure statement on another page

Examples of acceptable usage on Facebook:

  • ad: We are SO excited to be partnering with MYM! Check out these campaigns! http://bit.ly/18wls7P
  • spon: We are SO excited to be partnering with MYM! Check out these campaigns! http://bit.ly/18wls7P
  • Affiliate Link: I am SO stinkin’ excited to share with you MYM’s campaigns! http://bit.ly/18wls7P
  • We heart our new partner, MYM. Check out their amazing campaigns. http://bit.ly/18wls7P #sponsored
  • We heart our new partner, MYM. Check out their amazing campaigns. http://bit.ly/18wls7P #advertisement
  • Check out how much Kathy raised this week! http://bit.ly/18wls7P (heads up: it’s an affiliate link)

Examples of acceptable usage on Twitter:

  • lead with “Ad” or “Sponsored”
  • lead with “#ad” or “#sponsored”
  • Affiliate link: http://bit.ly/18wls7P
  • Sponsored link:  http://bit.ly/18wls7P

Examples of acceptable usage on Blog Posts:

  • This posts contains sponsored links from Move Your Mountain.
  • This post contains affiliate links, which means that if you click on a link, I’ll get paid a little. So, thanks in advance!
  • Although this post is sponsored, all opinions are my own.
  • Hey…I’m sharing with you an AMAZING company. They’re SO cool, that when I send them referrers, I get paid. So…go on…take a look at them. You’re going to love them as much as I do!

There is NO way around using disclosure statements when sharing affiliate links.
