Fundraising Tips: Getting great “PR” for your campaign
It is important that you share your campaign with others. Your cause is important to you.
When you are out promoting your campaign and sharing your heart, this is like planting seeds. This work is all you. Yes you are sharing on social media and with all your connections and friends. It’s your effort and it’s all based on your actions. It is daunting ….unless you have a real strategy to win. Winning in the fundraising game is all about pulling others to your cause, raising awareness for your campaign.
Target Your Audience
Sharing your campaign with your friends and family is the first step. But, then what? Then, you target your audience. You do research and find out who is writing about your cause or type of campaign. Start with local groups and newspapers and then spread out. Check for online forums and discussion boards that may be talking about your very cause. These are the people outside your “crowd” that will be interested in the campaign that you’ve created.
Your story and campaign will move people, but their eyes will be immediately drawn to the pictures that you post. Be sure that you’ve taken the time to include relevant and clear pictures.
Write Your Story
You have the amazing pictures to pull people in…now, make them WANT to be part of your campaign by writing a moving story. Be detailed and concise, painting a picture with words of the emotion and passion that you fell about your cause and that prompted you to start this crowdfunding campaign.
Share Your Campaign
It is VERY important that you find others to share with the world about your campaign. When others join the cause and are sharing and promoting. Multiplication can now happen. Multiplication is the wonderful result of others being involved. Multiplication takes all the pressure off you. Multiplication is the actions of others benefiting your cause without anymore of your effort.
I can ask someone to help or I can ask someone to ask others and help me. Same effort…different result
So, how do we get this Multiplication thing going ? By the way…when you work and are in the beginning…it’s all you. It takes time and money and effort. It is important that you think and act with Multiplication in mind.
Multiplication costs you nothing. Remember It’s not you doing it anymore. It’s others acting on your behalf. They won’t act if they don’t ever hear your story and you don’t ask them.
It is similar to Advertising vs PR. Advertising costs you effort and money..it is the planting of the seeds. PR is others talking, tweeting, posting about you and asking for help (after they have heard about you). That is FREE.
Here are a few steps to get moving and get multiplying. (Have Fun)
#1 What is your Cause/Need ?
#2 Why is this your Cause/Need ?
#3 Who in your Town, City or Neighborhood has gone through what you are. Make a list of these people and share here first.
#4 Who are all the TV, Radio, Newspapers, Journals, Magazines and Biz leaders that you can think of ? Make this list and get their info so you can email, call or meet with to share your story.
#5 Who are the Non Profits, Charities, Foundations and Social organizations(rotary, etc) in your community/city. Make this list and share with them your story.
#6 Now get your story down and focused. Be able to share clearly and openly. Never share and not Ask for support and Help Promoting. “Make the Ask”
#7 Go to work ! Start calling and emailing and meeting …plant your seeds. The people who feel your message will help..it’s your job to share it. ” Keep Sharing”
#8 Keep everyone updated on progress and always thank them.
You have made great strides in sharing your crowdfunding campaign with friends, family, and others in your network. You’ve worked the “multiplication” method, and shared with far more people than you’ve ever thought possible. But, don’t stop now. Keep the momentum going and keep your donors updated. Continue to update your campaign and stay in contact with people that have supported you thus far.
These donors came from your passion and devotion to your cause. They supported you and the relationship you cultivated. Continue to grow that relationship even after the campaign is funded.
Go for it !
