I would like to first give a brief overview of my child’s life. Grayson was born in July of 2009. He will be 6 this year. We had a lot of problems during my pregnancy and that didn’t stop when he was born.. He was born in trauma, heart stopped, O2 levels fell and the blood rushed to save his organs. He had died!!! From that moment of what I thought life was going to be, what I had thought of CHANGED!!! The first two years of his life was just a battle everyday to keep him ALIVE!! He was born missing a hereditary chromosome but at birth we were not aware of this…He suffers from Anoxic seizures, Grand Mal seizures, heart and lung failure, oxygen saturation issues and a list that is a mile long. AND, Let me tell you what Grayson does in a trauma and you will understand why he is the only child in the united states still alive. A trauma at birth is needing to be feed, hungry, wet diaper, wanting to be held, and tired. It is unlimited!!! because he was only an infant he couldn’t tell me, he couldn’t express his wants and needs. So Grayson would try to express a cry: get his mouth open but that tells his brain he’s in a trauma and within 3 SECS his brain shuts off his lungs, collapse his throat and stops his heart. Well then his 02 levels fall and I mean fall to death defying numbers. His body would get super stiff and be stretched out. Once completely passed out, he would then take a giant breath of air, wake up and be tired. His 02 levels fall so fast that he can’t recover fast enough. Then that makes him tired, ache and the doctors told me it was like running a marathon each time he did this. As Grayson grew so did the amount of time that he was out. Sometimes we would have Seizures in the middle of this due to lack of 02 to the brain, that lasted 20-45 minutes. Well you might ask, “How many times did he do this, 1, 2 maybe 3 times…” Let me tell you: As a parent once would have been plenty for me, HOWEVER this happened to my family 8-12 times in a day. We could not get in the car and leave our house because it was a trauma to put him in carseat, drive, hit a bump, have to much noise. I can’t image as a infant running 8-12 marathons in a day. Graysons body hurt, he couldn’t be touched, couldn’t roll over and couldn’t stay awake because his 02 levels could NEVER become normal. Grayson is now 6 years old and he has been taught to breathe and since he is learning sign language, he is better at communicating. Communication seems to be the key to helping us with his traumas or now we call them frustrations. He is overall becoming an easier child. Helping him be able to tell us he wants more gold fish crackers and bananas are helping us with not so many pass outs and emergency visits to the hospital. It is the hardest thing to watch your child and know that there is absolutely nothing you can do. But with our faith in the good Lord, our friends, family and LOTS of therapy, Grayson improves everyday.
