Remembering the Most Important Part of Giving
“It is not happy people who are thankful; It is thankful people who are happy.”
On Thanksgiving we stuff our faces with massive amounts of food. Black Friday and Cyber Monday, we spend hours stuffing our shopping bags with massive amounts of goods and holiday shopping. What better way to refocus the true meaning of the holiday season of “Giving” than to dedicate an entire day to stuffing massive amounts of money, love and good will into every home, organization and heart around the world?
#GivingTuesday is a 24-hour online global campaign that began in 2012, dedicated to encouraging people to make donations to charities, to volunteer and in general, support philanthropy.
With the fourth successful #GivingTuesday officially in the books, #ThankYouWednesday has become a day to reflect, celebrate and give thanks for another amazing year of generosity and giving. If you were on social media at all yesterday, you couldn’t help but be inundated with examples of generosity, creativity, joy, gratitude and celebration all with the same goal of Giving! Our newsfeeds are so often filled with sadness, fear, racism and recently, terrorism- it was a joy to see the online community come together to impact the world positively!
Gratitude is the key to #GivingTuesday. Whether you donated blood, gave money or clothing, or volunteered your time, you should give thanks for all that you have and all that you are capable of doing. For those who received, it is important to remember to thank your donors, volunteers and employees for all the hard work they do throughout the year.
In the coming years #GivingTuesday will continue to evolve. It will continue to grow and increase in support for the organizations that are involved. But let’s not stop at only giving once a year. Mark your calendar for every Tuesday or any day, and do something for someone else. Join me in starting a new trend where we focus on gratitude and generosity every day of the week and keep the holiday spirit alive in our hearts #GivingEveryday! #MoveYourMtn
